The World Seido Karate Organization is coming to the Kin Tora dojo!
Because of movies, television and magazines, karate is widely perceived as a purely physical art with spinning kicks and "karate chops." Karate develops strength, stamina, and physical well-being which are all desirable objectives but they are not the heart of true karate-do. Seido (SAY-dough) Karate is a strict, traditional Japanese style of karate that translates as “Sincere Way.” Created by Tadashi Nakamura in 1976, Seido strives to provide the benefits of karate to everyone: young, old, strong, weak, handicapped, as well as those capable. Since its inception, Seido Karate has become a worldwide organization with over 20,000 students being taught in sixteen countries including such diverse places as Australia, Greece, the Republic of South Africa, England, India, and South America. The physical training in Seido is strenuous, emphasizing progressive development of strength, flexibility, and aerobic capacity. One of the goals of Seido Karate training is to develop strong bodies, which contributes to one’s overall health and a general sense of self-confidence and well-being. In addition to developing students with the highest level of physical skills, Seido aims to develop individuals of the highest moral character, individuals who can then make significant contributions to their families, their work place, and in the society at large. We are not concerned with comparing students; we are concerned that every class they leave a little better than when they came in. We focus on the quality of the student and not their fighting ability; their spirit rather than their power. Starting in early 2006, classes will be forming on Monday and Wednesday evenings at the Kin Tora dojo. Classes are open for those ages 12 and up and will be taught by Peter Macaluso, who has been a student of Seido Karate for eighteen years and currently teaches Seido for students at the University at Buffalo.
